It is a celebration of Lord Murugan, the Hindu god of war, and involves devotees carrying kavadis (decorated wooden or metal frames) or piercing their bodies with skewers as acts of penance. The festival is held at the Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple in Little India and is attended by thousands of people, both locals and tourists, who come to witness and participate in the colorful and spiritual celebration.

guineapig33 posted a photo: At the Thaipusam festival 2023 celebrated by the Hindu community in Singapore, a devotee inside the Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple prepares to perform the Kavadi Aattam (Burden Dance), a ceremonial sacrifice and offering to Murugan, the Hindu God of War. The devotee will have to carry these heavy burdens while going on a procession and dance along a pilgrimage route from one temple to another. On a side note, from now on, I will be moving on to the new mirrorless Canon R6 Mark II camera, so it may take a while for me to use it to its full potential, as currently I am still trying to master the AF settings that the R6 Mark II offers as part of the learning curve
