It is mainly observed in countries where there is a significant presence of Tamil community such as India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Mauritius, Singapore, Thailand and Myanmar. The word Thaipusam is a combination of the name of the month, Thai, and the name of a star, Pusam.

First few stops as a tourist in Kuala Lumpur apart from the Petronas Twin Towers, Batu Caves is quite a famous place to experience a different culture. It is a limestone hill with a Hindu shrine inside the cave at the top of hills.
